Ready, Set, Succeed: Transitioning Out of the Readiness to School Program

Mark Mutesasira • August 5, 2025

As a parent, ensuring your child is prepared for the challenges and opportunities of school is a top priority. At Silveira Behavior Consultants, our Readiness to School Program is designed to equip children with the skills they need to thrive in a classroom environment. Just as important as the progress your child makes within the program is the process of transitioning out of it.

WHAT IS THE READINESS TO SCHOOL PROGRAM?

Our Readiness to School Program is tailored to help children develop the foundational skills necessary for a smooth and successful entry into formal schooling. These skills include:

  • Social Interaction: Building the ability to engage with peers and adults, share, take turns, and work in groups.
  • Communication Skills: Enhancing both verbal and non-verbal communication so children can express needs, follow instructions, and participate in classroom discussions.
  • Behavioral Regulation: Developing self-control, coping strategies, and the ability to follow classroom rules and routines.
  • Pre-Academic Skills: Introducing basic concepts such as letters, numbers, shapes, and colors to give children a head start in academics.

Our program provides a nurturing environment where children learn at their own pace, with individualized attention to meet their unique needs.

THE IMPORTANCE OF TRANSITIONING OUT OF THE PROGRAM

While the Readiness to School Program offers essential support and skill development, it is not meant to be permanent. Transitioning out is a vital step that signifies your child is ready to move forward, gaining independence and confidence as they enter a new phase of their educational journey.

Here’s why transitioning out matters:

Building Independence

One of the program’s main goals is to help children develop independence for classroom success. Transitioning out demonstrates that your child can manage behavior, engage socially, and handle school demands with less direct support—key to long-term success.

Fostering Confidence

Transitioning out is a milestone that boosts confidence. It shows children they have acquired the skills to succeed in a traditional school setting, encouraging them to face new challenges with a positive mindset.

Encouraging Generalization of Skills

Children must apply learned skills in different settings. Transitioning out allows them to use social, communication, and behavioral skills in real-world school environments, ensuring these abilities are generalized and functional.

Preparing for New Challenges

Moving on from the program introduces new opportunities for growth. Transitioning equips children with foundational skills to succeed in kindergarten and beyond.

Supporting Long-Term Success

Transitioning out is not the end—it’s the beginning of a new chapter. By moving forward, children lay the groundwork for long-term academic and social success, thriving in traditional educational settings with confidence and independence.

HOW WE SUPPORT A SMOOTH TRANSITION

At Silveira Behavior Consultants, we understand that transitioning out of the Readiness to School Program is a big step for both children and parents. That’s why we take a comprehensive, supportive approach to ensure the process is smooth.

We collaborate with families to create personalized transition plans, which may include gradual changes in support, coordination with the child’s future school, and ongoing communication to monitor progress. Our goal is to ensure every child feels supported and ready for the challenges ahead.

The Readiness to School Program at Silveira Behavior Consultants is an invaluable resource for preparing children for school. Just as important as the skills acquired within the program is the process of transitioning out. This transition signifies readiness to step into formal education with confidence, independence, and the tools needed to succeed.

As your child moves forward, we’re here to support every step of the journey—ensuring they are not just ready for school, but ready to thrive.
